TSA sets new record for number of passengers screened in one day

The Transportation Security Administration announced on Friday that it had screened more than 2.95 million airline passengers, setting a new single-day record.

In a post on X, Formerly known as Twitter, the agency said it screened 2,951,163 people at airport checkpoints nationwide on Saturday, beating the previous record of 2,907,378 set on the Sunday after Thanksgiving last year.

“If you flew yesterday, congratulations, you were part of a record-breaking day!” Lisa Farbstein, a spokeswoman for the TSA, said in a Separate post.

The TSA predicts Friday will be the busiest day for air travel ahead of the start of Memorial Day weekend, with nearly 3 million people expected to pass through airport checkpoints.

The TSA screened just under 2.9 million people Thursday, down about 11,000 from the previous record. Five of the 10 busiest travel days have come since May 16, the company said.
