Tom Holland’s Spider-Man returns to theaters on July 24, 2026.
Director Destin Daniel Cretton’s untitled Columbia Pictures project comes out on May 1, 2026, after “Avengers: Doomsday.” “Spider-Man: Far From Home” followed a similar release two months after “Avengers: Endgame,” and the third Spidey movie grossed more than $1 billion worldwide.
During an appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on Tuesday night, Holland confirmed that his fourth “Spider-Man” film will begin production in mid-2025.
“Next summer, we start shooting. Everything looks great – we’re almost there,” Holland said. “Super excited. I can’t wait!”
During a recent interview on the “Rich Roll Podcast,” Holland said he read a draft of the script for his fourth “Spider-Man” movie and “it needs work, but the writers are doing a great job.”
“With Marvel, your movie is a small cog in a big machine,” Holland said of the development of “Spider-Man 4.” “That machine has to keep running.” You need to make sure you fit into that timeline at the right time to benefit the bigger picture. This is one of the challenges we face. The time frame for us to do that is high, but certainly achievable with the people we’re working with now. Zendaya is MJ again. It is not yet clear whether he will play the role.
Holland has played Peter Parker in three separate films directed by Jon Watts: “Spider-Man: Homecoming” (2017), “Spider-Man: Far From Home” (2019) and “Spider-Man: No Way Home” (2021).
Variety “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton confirmed in September that he would take over the rights from trilogy director Watts and direct the sequel. Cretton’s other credits include 2013’s “Short Term 12,” 2017’s “The Glass Castle,” and 2019’s “Just Mercy.” He was previously set to direct the now-abandoned “Avengers: The Kong Dynasty,” but he dropped out of the project in November 2023, which was later replaced by “Avengers: Doomsday.” Gretton stayed with the Marvel family and co-created the upcoming “Wonder Man” miniseries starring Yahya Abdul Mateen II. Cretan is also developing a sequel to “Shang-Chi,” but a source close to the production said “Spider-Man 4” is currently the studio’s priority.
The relationship between Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures Entertainment has been a tumultuous one at times. There was a brief period in late 2019 where the two companies reached an impasse over the character’s future in the MCU, and their contract was temporarily terminated. They soon came to a resolution, followed by the “No Way Home” crossover extravaganza that brought former Spider-Men Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield into the MCU.
