PGA Tour golfer Grayson Murray has died, a day after withdrawing from the Charles Schwab Challenge in Fort Worth, Texas, PGA Tour officials said.
No cause of death was listed. He is 30 years old.
“We are devastated – and heartbroken to share – to learn that PGA Tour player Grayson Murray passed away this morning. I am at a loss for words,” said PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan. In a statement on Saturday.
Murray, a two-time PGA Tour winner, withdrew from Friday’s second round with two holes to play, citing an illness.
Earlier this year, Murray ended a six-and-a-half-year winless drought against former PGA Championship winner Keegan Bradley and South Korea’s Ahn Pyeong-Hun at the Sony Open, which he admits he struggled with. Mental health and physical issues.

Hailing from Raleigh, North Carolina, Murray captured three IMG Junior World titles in 2006, ’07, and ’08 and was considered one of the best junior players in the world. At 16, he became the second-youngest man to make the cut on the Korn Ferry Tour, according to the PGA Tour, and at 19, he played in the 2013 US Open. He won the 2017 Barbazol Championship at the age of 23.
“Grayson was absolutely brilliant. Not only was he an incredible, thoughtful and generous boss, he was an even better friend,” his caddie Jay Green said in a statement. In a statement to CNN, Murray’s agent Kevin Canning said, “We are saddened and saddened to learn of Grayson Murray’s sudden passing. Grayson has been a longtime member of the GSE family, and hearing the news this morning came as a shock to all of us.
And in an X post, former Masters winner Bubba Watson said he was “deeply saddened” to learn of Grayson’s death.

Murray has been vocal about some of his struggles in his golf career, including alcohol. He spent some time in rehab Interview with PGAAnd struggled with anxiety.
“The news really hasn’t sunk in yet,” said world No. 1 Scotty Scheffler after his third round at the Charles Schwab Challenge on Saturday.
“I am thinking about his family and praying hard for all of them,” he told reporters. “I can’t imagine what a difficult time this has been. I’ve gotten to know Grayson better over the last six months, and yes, there really isn’t a way to put into words how sad and sad it is, but I’m thinking of his family.
2012 US Open winner Webb Simpson also paid tribute to Murray on Saturday, saying the two had a “long history” together.
“I think I first met Grayson at my home club when he was eight, maybe nine years old. He was the first winner of the Webb Simpson Challenge Junior tournament, which I’ve had for 14 years,” Simpson told reporters.
“So when you hear news like that on the phone, you don’t think it’s real at first, you know, you hear the emotion coming from our swing coach and you realize it’s real.
