Cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike says a “significant number” of devices affected by Friday’s global IT outage are now back online.

In a social media post, the company – whose botched security update crashed Microsoft Windows computers around the world – “continues to focus on restoring all systems”.

Businesses, banks, hospitals and airlines have been hit the hardest, with some still struggling to fully restore their systems.

“We understand the profound impact this has had on everyone. We know our customers, partners and their IT teams have been working tirelessly, and we are extremely grateful.” CrowdStrike said.

“We apologize for the disruption this has caused.”

The company also said it is deploying a new solution it hopes will speed up the recovery of computer systems.

However, CrowdStrike did not say how many other devices were affected.

More than 1,400 flights into or out of the United States were canceled on Sunday, according to aviation tracking and data platform FlightAware.

Delta and United Airlines were the worst hit US airlines.

Health services in Britain, Israel and Germany were also affected on Friday, with some services being cancelled.

The massive outage has drawn attention to the vulnerability of global computer networks, showing how a glitch can cause global chaos.

“Too often these days, a glitch causes a system-wide outage, affecting industries from healthcare and airlines to banks and auto dealers,” U.S. Federal Trade Commission Chair Lina Kahn said in a social media post.

“These incidents reveal how concentration can create fragile systems.”

Until this incident, the company was one of the most trusted brands in the cyber security industry.

According to CrowdStrike’s website, it has 29,000 customers worldwide, including some of the largest companies in the United States.

China doesn’t trust Microsoft like the rest of the world.

After becoming vice president, Vance defended his loyalty to America Kamala Harris said He will only be loyal to Trump, not our country.

British Open final round live updates, leaderboard: Billy Horschel leads crowded field in hunt for first major at Royal Troon

Billy Horschel is as close as he’s ever been to a major championship.

Horschel survived a bad weather round on Saturday to take a commanding lead in Sunday’s final round at the British Open. He will start the day at 4-under for a one-shot lead over the field at Royal Troon in Scotland.

It was the seventh time Horschel had at least a share of the 54-hole mark. He has converted three of the previous six titles. The last six major championship winners had at least a share of the 54-hole lead.

While he’s in a big position, Claret Jug can still be caught by anyone. Horschel will match up with Tristan Lawrence, who is one of six golfers sitting one stroke back at 3-under. Top seed Scotty Scheffler will start at No. 2 and Shane Lowry at No. 1.

  • John Rahm: Too little, too late?

It’s been a memorable season for Jon Rahm: a T45 finish in his Masters defense, a missed cut at the PGA Championship, an exit from the US Open. And he struggled early in the Open Championship. But on Sunday, he started his day with three straight birdies at -1, three strokes off the lead. Unfortunately, he missed one of the two par-5s, but he finished at -2 on the 7th. He has to keep rolling that hot streak into the holes he’s covering to do any kind of charge.

  • The wind blows

Flags stand at attention and leaders bend their sticks as they begin their rounds.

World No. 1 Scotty Scheffler left his approach on No. 1 a little short of the green, but was par. Shane Lowery scrambled for par from a greenside bunker.

Only two groups have yet to leave.

  • Justin Thomas fired himself

So, you start the day four steps back from the lead. By the time you get to the second tee, you’re seven back. Justin Thomas started his round with a triple in the first. How it came about:

    First: OB

    Second: Punishment

    Third: Fairway Bunker

    Fourth: 11-yard field goal

    Fifth: Green

    Sixth: Putt

    Seventh: Hole

  • Jason Day gives one back

After Welp made the turn in 32, Day immediately bogeyed the 10th, putting him back above par. Note: The back nine played harder than the front all week.

  • Don’t sleep on John Rahm

Three holes, three birdies for Rahm, who is -1. What a start for the Spaniard.

  • Jason Day tries to post an early number

With Billy Horschel and Tristan Lawrence both out in an hour, Jason Day will be a few holes away from completing his round. Why is it important? Because Day returned to his round of 32, 4-under. He is now at par for the tournament, just four strokes back. If he cards a few more birds and registers an early number, if the weather wreaks some havoc as the day goes on, he could be in surprisingly decent shape.

  • Weather and Vegas

More moderate gray skies and manageable winds (for now) in Scotland led to – on several occasions – rain and gusty winds disrupting Round 3. Ryan Fox is already in the clubhouse with a 4-under 67 – but is expected to arrive just in time for the rain and the leaders starting to leave.

Nine players are within three shots of leader Billy Horschel. Who does Vegas want to win?

It’s Xander Schauffele at +350, followed by Scottie Scheffler (+375), then Horschel at +550.

For Schauffle, it would be his second-highest of the season after going 0-for-26. Scheffler is looking for his third major championship and first out of the gates at Augusta. And Horschel, he’s looking for an even bigger No. 1.

A listeria outbreak linked to sliced deli meats has killed two people and sickened more than two dozen others.

The CDC announced Friday that 28 people in 12 states have been sickened by listeria bacteria linked to sliced deli meats, and two have died.

The health agency warns people not to eat meats purchased at deli counters unless they are reheated to an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit — a temperature high enough to kill bacteria.

Keeping meat cold does not eliminate listeria.

CDC investigators are still gathering information about the outbreak to determine the exact sources of listeria.

More than two dozen people in 12 states have been sickened by the bacteria listeria, which has been linked to sliced deli meats.

The CDC said: ‘Many people in this outbreak report eating deli meats.’

Sixteen of 18 people interviewed by the CDC reported eating deli-sliced meats, typically deli-sliced turkey, liverwurst, and ham. Meats were cut in various supermarkets and grocery stores.

Officials added: ‘Our investigation is ongoing to determine which deli meat may have been contaminated. We don’t have data to show that people are getting sick from prepackaged deli meats.’

The CDC did not disclose what specific products were affected.

All 28 people were hospitalized and samples were collected from May 29, 2024 to July 5, 2024 from the sick.

A pregnant woman was successfully cured.

Both deaths were reported in residents of Illinois and New Jersey.

The age of the patients ranged from 32 years to 94 years.

The CDC advises vulnerable populations such as the elderly, those with weakened immune systems, or pregnant women to take extra precautions and avoid deli meats unless properly reheated.

The outbreak has hit 12 states and two deaths have been reported among residents in Illinois and New Jersey.
All 28 people were hospitalized and samples of the sick were collected from May 29, 2024 to July 5, 2024.

These individuals must clean all surfaces and containers that have come into contact with cut deli meats.

The announcement comes a day after it was revealed that two people have died and 10 have been sickened by listeria in almond milk and other dairy-free alternatives in Canada.

Nine of them have been hospitalized and most of the cases are in Ontario.

They consumed Silk Branded Oats, Almond, Cashew or Coconut Milk as a substitute

Listeria monocytogenes is a bacterium that causes listeriosis, a bacterial infection that can lead to severe illness and death.

Nausea, cramps, diarrhea and constipation are warning signs of listeria infection – which usually manifests within a few hours to three days of consuming contaminated food.

More than 90 percent of patients are hospitalized, the FDA says.

In severe cases, the bacteria can spread to the nervous system and cause meningitis — swelling of the fluid around the brain — and sepsis.

Both can prove fatal.

Officials say people with weakened immune systems and those over 60 are particularly at risk of infection.

Pregnant women with Listeria have a higher risk of miscarriage because the bacteria can be passed on to the fetus.

About 1,600 people are infected with listeria each year in the United States, estimates suggest, while about 260 die.

Some US states report 911 disturbances

Officials in some US states, including Alaska, Virginia and Iowa, warned of 911 problems in their areas.

Alaska State Troopers warned that many 911 and non-emergency call centers across the state are not working properly and have shared alternate numbers for areas where 911 does not work.

In Virginia, the City of Fairfax Police Department said on social media that it was experiencing technical issues with its phone systems, including 911. Callers may use the department’s shared non-emergency number 911, but calls will not go through. Directly to the dispatch center.

New Hampshire Emergency Services and Communications reported a temporary outage early Friday morning. Around 1 a.m., New Hampshire 911 operators could see on their computer systems that they were unable to respond to incoming 911 calls, the agency said in a news release. Unanswered calls were returned to ensure people got the help they needed. Around 3:30 a.m., calls and text messages to 911 were received on the backup system, and the system was fully restored, officials said.

In Iowa, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office warned on social media that phone lines were down. 911 calls may be routed to neighboring counties, but emergency calls are immediately routed to the sheriff’s office, the department said.

Daniel Brown leads Shane Lowry after Round 1 of the Open Championship

0

TRUNE, Scotland – The first round at Royal Troon brought down many of the world’s best players, but England’s Daniel Brown – currently ranked 272nd in the world – handled the test with unexpected ease. The 29-year-old from Northallerton shot a bogey-free 65 to take a one-shot lead at the Open Championship.

In his first Open, let alone playing in his first major championship, Brown led the field in strokes gained off the tee and had a similarly strong performance. He gained 4.5 shots on the greens and tied for second in strokes gained putting on the field at Royal Troon. Brown is making his third PGA Tour start and is coming off a cut at the Scottish Open, but has missed six cuts in a row before that. According to Athletic Contributor Justin Ray Brown is the only player in the last 30 years to start his major career with a bogey-free round of 65 or less.

Hiding behind Brown is a player familiar with the brutal contact conditions that lasted at Royal Troon on Thursday. Shane Lowry sits tied for second at 5-under-par. Lowry, who won the 2019 Open Championship at Royal Portrush in his native Ireland, has become a big stage player in recent years. He has two wins on the PGA Tour, but has won at Portrush and has finished T25 or better in 15 of his last 22 majors.

Lowry kept himself in good condition throughout the day, while many of his contemporaries were buried in thick ravines and deep bunkers. Meanwhile, he made no mistakes on the greens, leading the field while making 14 putts within 10 feet. He finished 7th, 8th and 10th.

Lowry has had a tough start to 2024, as he admitted in his win at the Zurich Classic team event, with teammate Rory McIlroy taking him on at times. Since that win, Lowry has gone T6 at the PGA Championship, T19 at the US Open and T9 at the Travelers.

Justin Thomas headed into the clubhouse leading the morning slate after a 68 in tough conditions. Thomas struggled a lot in his life with connection courses. Perfectly suited to the two-time major winner’s creative, versatile playing style, Thomas’ best Open finish is T11 in 2019 and his next best is T40. He has missed three of seven Open cuts, and last year he opened with an 82 at Royal Liverpool, which was the lowest point.

Thursday, however, Thomas hit the greens efficiently and finished the holes well. He finished in the top 10 in the field in strokes gained while making 16 of 18 putts within 20 feet.

Perhaps most interestingly, Thomas responded when the course got the best of him. After opening the first 10 at 4-under with a two-shot lead, he finished No. He double-bogeyed the 12th and followed it up with another bogey on the 13th. Royal Troon had been devouring players all day at that point, but Thomas finished the round with birdies. 17 and 18.

“I feel like everything is back on track and I’m doing the right things,” Thomas said. “Like I said, I don’t have a lot to show for it. This is how the game plays out sometimes. But I know I’m close the way I am, I’ll just keep playing, not playing for results, playing for my game and it will take care of itself.”

Outside of Thomas, the Europeans played well in the international majors. In addition to great starts by Lowry and Brown, England’s Justin Rose shot a bogey-free 69, and 23-year-old Dane Nikolaj Højgaard and Swede Alex Noren also finished at 2-under.

Xander Schauffele — who won the PGA Championship in May with them at age 69 — and Russell Henley were looking for his first major win.

But many of the industry’s biggest stars were seemingly kicked out. At last month’s US Open, the top two players, McIlroy and Bryson DeChambeau, were at 7 and 5 over, respectively. McIlroy had just one birdie all day, and DeChambeau shot 6 through eight holes and, like him, needed an eagle on 16.

“It’s a completely different test,” DeCambeau said. “I haven’t had any practice in it and I haven’t played much in the rain. Yes, here it is a tough test. Something I’m not familiar with.”

Tiger Woods, playing all four majors in a year for the first time since 2019, started off on Day 1 but quickly dropped eight shots over the next nine holes to eventually finish 8 over. This places him 140th in the field. Woods, 48, has never finished better than 47th in the seven majors he has played since suffering a serious leg injury in a 2021 car accident.
