Some US states report 911 disturbances

Officials in some US states, including Alaska, Virginia and Iowa, warned of 911 problems in their areas.

Alaska State Troopers warned that many 911 and non-emergency call centers across the state are not working properly and have shared alternate numbers for areas where 911 does not work.

In Virginia, the City of Fairfax Police Department said on social media that it was experiencing technical issues with its phone systems, including 911. Callers may use the department’s shared non-emergency number 911, but calls will not go through. Directly to the dispatch center.

New Hampshire Emergency Services and Communications reported a temporary outage early Friday morning. Around 1 a.m., New Hampshire 911 operators could see on their computer systems that they were unable to respond to incoming 911 calls, the agency said in a news release. Unanswered calls were returned to ensure people got the help they needed. Around 3:30 a.m., calls and text messages to 911 were received on the backup system, and the system was fully restored, officials said.

In Iowa, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office warned on social media that phone lines were down. 911 calls may be routed to neighboring counties, but emergency calls are immediately routed to the sheriff’s office, the department said.
