Ellen DeGeneres is ready to walk away from show business.
The 66-year-old comedian said he was “done” with being in the public eye after him A Netflix stand-up special Coming out later this year.
DeGeneres made the announcement on July 1 at her comedy show in Santa Rosa, California.
“This is the last time you’re going to see me. “After my Netflix special, I’m done,” he said SF Gate.
When a fan asked DeGeneres if she would return to voice Dory from “Finding Nemo” and “Finding Dory,” DeGeneres replied, “No, I’m saying goodbye, remember.”
DeGeneres is currently on her “Ellen’s Last Stand … Up” tour. He recently canceled four shows without explanation.
Prior to the tour, DeGeneres had stayed under the radar after her eponymous talk show ended with Season 19 in May 2022 following toxic workplace claims.
In 2020, current and former employees spoke anonymously about their alleged experience on the set of a talk show for BuzzFeed News Report. At the time he apologized to the staff and producers Ed Clavin, Kevin Lemon and Jonathan Norman left the show.
“Because we’ve grown so fast, I can’t keep up with everything and rely on others to do their jobs because they know I want them to do it. It’s clear some people don’t,” he wrote in a note to The Hollywood Reporter at the time. “That will change now, and it won’t happen again. I am committed to ensuring that.”
DeGeneres addressed the controversy on her July 1 stand-up show.
“I was kicked out of show business for being ugly,” she told the crowd, according to SFGate.
“I can be demanding and impatient and difficult. I’m a strong woman. I’m many things, but I’m not mean,” she added.
The Emmy winner continued, “I used to say, ‘I don’t care what people say about me.'” I realize now that I said that at the height of my popularity.
DeGeneres previously addressed the allegations against her during an event in West Hollywood in April.
“The hate has gone on for so long that I try to avoid watching the news. ‘Be nice’ girl is not kind. That’s the headline,” she told fans in Largo.
He also joked that he had become “the most hated person in America.”
Two weeks before “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” aired its final episode, the former Oscars host said The Hollywood Reporter Her decision to end the show had nothing to do with the behind-the-scenes controversy.
“When you’re a creative person, you need to be constantly challenged — and as great and fun as this show is, it’s no longer a challenge,” he insisted.
DeGeneres’ upcoming Netflix special was announced in May.
