Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber placed on 10-day injured list – NBC Sports Philadelphia

-

Phillies players Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber are believed to have avoided serious injuries during Thursday night’s loss to the Miami Marlins. sources told John Clark of NBC Sports Philadelphia.

In announcing their roster moves for Friday night’s game against the Marlins, the Phillies revealed that Harper was on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain, while Schwarber was on the 10-day injured list with a left groin strain.

Infielder Cody Clemens also returned from his rehab stint with Triple-A Lehigh Valley and was reinstated to the roster from the 10-day injured list. The Phillies recalled outfielder Johan Rojas from Lehigh Valley.

After Thursday night’s 7-4 loss to the Miami Marlins in the finals for the Philadelphia Phillies, Harper left the field with a hamstring strain.

As he tried to hit a grounder to right, Harper staggered toward the dugout as he crossed first base.

“I felt my bottom hammy, a little bit. We’re going to get a picture tomorrow and see how it goes,” Harper said Thursday. “We’ll see how I feel tomorrow and go from there.”

Schwarber, meanwhile, left in the ninth inning after suffering left hip tightness on a bad throw from the outfield. Schwarber, normally a designated hitter, started in left field – his third game all season.

“I went down to catch the ball bare-handed, planted for the throw and felt the catch,” Schwarber said. “I thought it was a cramp at first and I finished the inning. But when I was running (between innings) I could still feel it, so I talked to the trainer and he didn’t like the spot… so he wanted me out of there.

Harper previously said “there’s not really a soft tissue injury.” He said he felt discomfort halfway down the first base line. Asked how worried he was, he was cautious.

“I don’t know,” he said. “Like I said, I’ve never felt anything like this before. It hurts.”

The injury occurred after Harper was selected by fans to start at first base for the National League in the All-Star Game in Texas on July 16. Schwarber is one of six Philadelphia players who will be finalists in the next round of voting.

Harper is hitting .303 with 20 home runs and 58 RBIs.
