Another wrinkle came Thursday for the New York Jets’ current Hassan Reddick situation.
The Pro Bowl pass rusher’s agents at Creative Artists Agency have parted ways with him, with his contract on hold until the start of training camp. ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Ber NFL Network’s Mike GarafoloCAA tried to broker an extension with the Jets, while Redick dug in himself, leading to a rift over “philosophical differences.” It’s no wonder how bad the last few months have gone for everyone hoping to see Redick play in a Jets uniform.
The Jets traded for Reddy in March with hopes of bolstering a defense that ranked seventh in the NFL in passing yards and fifth in pressure rate. DJ Watt, Myles Garrett and Trey Hendrickson all had more sacks than Reddick’s 50.5 in the previous four seasons, reaching double digits in each of those seasons.
Essentially, the Jets made that trade with the Philadelphia Eagles without an agreement on a contract extension. Redick was scheduled to hit free agency after this season. Without a contract, Redick opted to sit out training camp and then request a trade from a team that acquired him months earlier. The Jets denied the request.
As Reddick’s suspension now extends into the regular season, he has is reported It lost more than $5 million in NFL-mandated fines and more than $4 million in forfeited game checks. A Spotrak’s base salary this season is $14.25 million.
Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers took swipes at Reddick’s agents last month, complaining about an article that said the Jets were “in complete disarray.” Reddick’s agents weren’t happy either.
